Synopsis

Goodbye Komárom depicts the story of post war Hungarian Jews escapefrom communist Hungary in 1946.While much of the world believes that the Nazis were defeated, the survivingJews that escaped the Holocaust in Poland, Hungary and Lithuania, enduredrenewed persecution. They were refugees and illegal immigrants making thejourney to Palestine. For the Jews of Komarom, Hungary, escape meantcrossing the treacherous Ipoly River. The night crossing of the Ipoly River is ametaphor for the human spiritʼs desire to attain refuge and a place ofbelonging. Goodbye Komarom is a story that illustrates the will to sacrifice forthe regeneration of dignity and self-determination after terrible oppression.When, for tragic historical reasons, a nation and society turn violently againsta group of its own people, the sense of identity is shattered, and the searchfor a new place of belonging begins.
